Welcome back to She Is Unstoppable! Are you ready to conquer the ever-growing digital landscape? In today’s episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with Adrienne Farrow, a Google Workspace Specialist and Google for Education Certified Trainer. Adrienne shared invaluable insights on maximizing efficiency and saving time using Google Workspace tools.

Why Google Workspace Matters

Adrienne’s journey from a classroom teacher to a Google Workspace expert is nothing short of inspiring. Here are the key takeaways from our conversation:

[00:01:38] Adrienne’s Transition from Education to Google Expertise

Adrienne started her career as a classroom and special education teacher before becoming an education technology specialist. Her passion for technology and helping others led her to become a Google Workspace expert.

“I was always the techie one at school, adopting iPads and integrating technology with the curriculum. When COVID hit, I led professional development for my colleagues online, which propelled me into becoming a Google trainer.”

[00:07:00] Understanding Google Workspace

Adrienne explains the core tools of Google Workspace and why business owners should use the business version for enhanced security and functionality.

“Google Workspace includes Gmail, Calendar, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and more. The business version provides better security, storage, and the ability to use your own domain name.”

[00:10:26] Productivity Hacks with Google Workspace

One of Adrienne’s favorite productivity hacks is using shared drives to streamline file management and maintain control over important documents.

“Shared drives allow you to share ownership of files, ensuring you won’t lose access if someone leaves your team. It’s crucial for maintaining control over your business documents.”

[00:17:18] Organizing Your Google Drive

Adrienne recommends the PARA system for organizing Google Drive efficiently, which involves creating only four main folders: Projects, Areas, Resources, and Archive.

“The PARA system helps keep everything organized. Projects are time-sensitive tasks, Areas are ongoing business functions, Resources are saved articles and tools, and Archive is for completed or old files.”

[00:20:48] Utilizing Google Tasks

Adrienne highlights the often underutilized Google Tasks, which integrates with Google Calendar to help manage your to-do list effectively.

“Google Tasks allows you to create lists and set due dates, which then show up on your Google Calendar. It’s a great tool for keeping track of personal and business tasks.”

Google Workspace offers a range of tools that can significantly enhance productivity and organization for business owners. By leveraging features like shared drives, the PARA organization system, and Google Tasks, you can save time and streamline your workflow.
