Visibility in the media can be a game-changer for your business, but it’s not enough to just get noticed—you need to know how to turn that attention into profit. In this episode of She Is Unstoppable, I sit down with media strategist Beth Nydick to discuss her journey from TV producer to media mentor and learn her secrets to monetizing visibility in today’s crowded landscape. Beth dives deep into the myths of instant success, the importance of having a media strategy, and the real ways to make your media appearances work for you.
Whether you’re aiming to land a podcast guest spot, secure a speaking engagement, or make a splash on national TV, Beth’s insights will help you build a media strategy that converts visibility into revenue.

- (00:04:13) Creating a Media Strategy: Beth explains her FAME formula and how it helps turn media appearances into a money-making machine.
- (00:05:07) Overcoming Visibility Fears: Discover how to get comfortable being seen, whether on social media, podcasts, or national TV.

- (00:20:07) Secrets of the Media Industry: Beth shares insider tips on building relationships with journalists and saying yes to unexpected opportunities.
Here are some key takeaways:
- Creating a Media Strategy: Beth’s FAME Formula Beth developed her FAME formula to help entrepreneurs navigate the media landscape strategically. FAME stands for Fearless Mindset, Authority Positioning, Media Getting, and Expert Monetization. The key is to build a repeatable system that earns media exposure and converts that exposure into clients and revenue.
Tip: Develop a strategy for how you will use media appearances to grow your business. Beth’s FAME formula is a great place to start, ensuring that every appearance has a purpose and a path to profit.
- Overcoming Visibility Fears: Show Up as Your Authentic Self Many entrepreneurs fear being seen on a larger stage, worrying they might come across as less polished or vulnerable. Beth emphasizes the importance of authenticity in media, sharing her personal journey of overcoming nerves and stepping into the spotlight. Her advice? The camera sees who you really are, so embrace it and let your true self shine.
Tip: Start small if you’re nervous—podcasts, Instagram Lives, or local speaking engagements are great ways to get comfortable before tackling bigger opportunities.
- Avoiding Common Mistakes: Share, Share, Share! One of the biggest mistakes Beth sees is entrepreneurs failing to share their media appearances. Whether it’s a podcast guest spot or a TV interview, the visibility doesn’t stop when the episode ends. Sharing your appearances across your platforms amplifies your message and keeps you top of mind for your audience.
Tip: Make a plan to promote every appearance you do. Share it on social media, include it in your email newsletter, and repurpose the content to keep it alive long after the initial release.
- Credibility vs. Money-Making Media: Know the Difference Not all media appearances are created equal. Beth breaks down the difference between credibility media (like major publications) and money-making media (like targeted podcasts). While big-name features can boost your credibility, the real revenue often comes from niche platforms that speak directly to your ideal audience.
Tip: Focus on appearances that align with your goals. Podcasts and smaller, targeted media outlets can be incredibly effective for converting listeners into paying clients.
- Balancing Authenticity with Sales: Be Transparent About Your Offers Beth teaches her clients to weave their offers naturally into their conversations, using stories, case studies, and examples. This approach allows you to be authentic while still making it clear how listeners can work with you. It’s about presenting your services as solutions without feeling overly salesy.
Tip: Don’t be afraid to talk about your offers in media appearances—frame them as solutions to common problems and make it easy for your audience to take the next step.
- Secrets of the Media Industry: Building Relationships with Journalists Beth shares that the key to getting consistent media opportunities is building genuine relationships with journalists. Unlike the digital world, where collaborations are often about mutual growth, media relationships are about helping journalists with content. The more you can be a reliable resource, the more often you’ll get called for opportunities.
Tip: Start connecting with journalists and producers in your industry. Follow them on social media, engage with their content, and be ready to say yes when opportunities arise.
Beth’s insights on turning visibility into revenue are a game-changer for any entrepreneur looking to amplify their brand. Start implementing these strategies today, and remember that showing up consistently, sharing your message, and leveraging every media appearance can lead to significant growth.
Visibility is just the beginning. It’s how you use that visibility that will determine your success.

[00:00:50.400] – Beth Nydick
The myth is people are like, well, if I’m on this huge show or the stage or this whatever, my life’s going to change, my business is going to change. And visibility does not equal success. Not instant success. No. Like, there’s no overnight sensations. Right?
[00:01:05.850] – Deanna Hinsz
Hey, Beth. How are you doing today?
[00:01:09.810] – Beth Nydick
So good. So happy to finally talk to you.
[00:01:12.230] – Deanna Hinsz
I know, right? I am so glad that you’re on today, and I know we’ve gone back and forth. Just life has happened, so we’ve put this off. Put this off. But you know what? You’re here now, and I’m so excited because I love talking about, like, how to just amplify your brand. And you are the expert in that. So I can’t wait to dig into this conversation. But before we do, can you just tell us a little bit about yourself?
[00:01:39.250] – Beth Nydick
Sure. I’m a former tv producer turned food blogger turned PR agency owner turned media strategist. And what that all encompasses is really understanding how to take a story and create the systems, the strategy, the awareness so that you can make money from those stories in form of speaking stages, your offers, your digital downloads, whatever it may be. I’m really focused on how we’re making money from media. And the special I I come with is being that former tv producer.
[00:02:13.610] – Deanna Hinsz
So that’s what kind of launched you into this?
[00:02:18.530] – Beth Nydick
Honestly, what launched me into this was I have. So I was a food blogger as a tv food expert, and I had a cocktail book come out in December 2017. And I don’t know if I think you know this, but maybe not. Your audience might not know as much. Like, there’s no media tour from the publisher anymore. Like, they don’t send you out. It’s everything that you have to do. So what I’m teaching now is essentially the things that I learned the things that I did to make money from a cocktail book that wasn’t making me any money, and that took the form of national tv programs, speaking engagements, and then creating an audience that’s like, wait, I like what Beth’s doing. I want to do stuff like that. I want to be on tv. I want to be on the podcast. I want to be on the stage. But being able to leverage that and amplify it so that you can make money from it, rather than just going on and having a conversation.
[00:03:08.940] – Deanna Hinsz
So are those the three things that mainly what it means, like to amplify your brand’s visibility in today’s media landscape, does it really come down to podcast, speaking, and tv? Are those the core?
[00:03:23.580] – Beth Nydick
I would say if you’re a digital entrepreneur, you’re an expert, you’re an author, those are the things that you should really be focused on. Is your core audience what they’re watching, listening to, and reading? A and I. And, I mean, everything from PoPSugar to Business Insider. Right. And then the second layer of that is the places that they would find that give you the credibility that they need for you to have to know that you are the solution to their problem.
[00:03:49.370] – Deanna Hinsz
Nice. I like that. Definitely. So a lot of entrepreneurs get on podcasts, right? Like the one that I have, or they get interviews or anything. They get speaking opportunity, but they struggle to see, like, get any financial return from that. How do you. How do you make money doing that stuff?
[00:04:13.020] – Beth Nydick
Um, that’s honestly, that’s everything I’m focused on. Right. Honestly, for the next 18 months, that’s really what I’m focused on. It’s because it’s just like launching a product. It’s just like creating a brand. You have to create a media strategy, a media system that you implement into your business. And for my clients, that’s the fame formula that you can, what do they say? Rinse and repeat? That not only earns you the media that you want, but converts listeners into clients.
[00:04:42.450] – Deanna Hinsz
Okay, can you tell us what fame stands for?
[00:04:45.320] – Beth Nydick
Yeah. Fame is a fearless mindset. A is authority positioning, m is media getting media, and e is expert monetization. Go ahead.
[00:05:02.440] – Deanna Hinsz
No, I was going to say, so do you teach people how to do all that? How?
[00:05:07.860] – Beth Nydick
That’s in all the program. Because if you can’t get over people seeing you looking silly, being out there, you know, I actually did a video recently. I had a sales call, and she was like, well, I want to be seen, but I don’t really want to get out there. I said, with all due respect, I don’t know what you mean. Like, I don’t understand what you meant. And it came down to her terrifying fear of being seen as somebody who wasn’t all put together and always great. And that shiny Instagram thing, that doesn’t work because the media sees right through you. I actually was watching the Drew Barrymore show this morning, okay? Jay Leno was on. She was there, and her sidekick, who actually got his start on the Tonight show, he was an intern, like, five years after I worked there. And Jay Leno said, the tv can see who you really are. And that’s what I teach my clients, is how to show up on video or national tv show with who you really are, and that’s how you can be opened up so people can listen to you.
[00:06:13.810] – Deanna Hinsz
And that’s really scary, though. I didn’t mean to interrupt you, but, I mean, we talk about it all the time, right? Be authentically who you are. But if you’re on tv, and, I mean, I can see where nerves. It’s like, I don’t know. What if I make a mistake? What if this happens? I could see where that would be scary to really show up as yourself, 100%.
[00:06:37.840] – Beth Nydick
But when I work with clients within the fame lab, which is my. My six month program with. I call it mentorship media mentorship Mastermind, we’re really going deep into what that actually means for you and the support that I give clients. You know, a lot of people, a lot of my past clients will say to me, you know, you really frightened me or terrified me or scared me before I started working with you, but I knew you were the person that was going to help me get over that and get to the next level. So if your one thing is like, I’m just scared to be seen, then come into the program and let me help you get over that, because it’s really just a mindset, and it’s a so what, and it’s a who cares? And a why not you, Deanna, I think, you know, this, like, my original origin story is how I screwed up. It’s not a good story.
[00:07:23.160] – Deanna Hinsz
No, I don’t know that. I didn’t know that. Yeah.
[00:07:27.030] – Beth Nydick
My first national tv appearance was on the doctor Oz show. I had hired a blogging coach, and my website was set up, and I had extra storage, so because we. I was assuming we’re gonna have so many people. I had a new lead magnet, and I remember working on the lead magnet the night before and then the day after and had, you know, I went on that doctor Oz show had a great episode. They invited me back. I worked with him for, like, two years. But what I didn’t do was publish my lead magnet the night before.
[00:07:56.130] – Deanna Hinsz
No, sir.
[00:07:58.250] – Beth Nydick
No, I know.
[00:08:00.120] – Deanna Hinsz
Oh, my gosh.
[00:08:01.720] – Beth Nydick
A couple of days later, I figured it out and hit publish. But I always say to my husband, like, I wonder if that, if I didn’t do that, what would have happened? Like, would I be in a different place? Would my business be different? Probably not. Cause I love what I do. But it’s about that story doesn’t make me look stupid, right? Story is like, oh, my God, do I have mine published? Oh, my God, does mine work? Like, that’s where you go. And I. And that’s how I take that fear out of the mindset so that you can show up. And what Jay Leto was saying, he’s like, he was called. It was Ross Matthews. He was saying how kind he was and how his kindness comes out. So when I work with clients, we’re figuring out what that is. What are those things about you that you’re going to be vulnerable about, that you’re going to show? And kindness is usually one of them with my clients.
[00:08:48.500] – Deanna Hinsz
That’s great. I like that. So what are some of the mistakes that you’ve seen when somebody is trying to leverage media appearances? And again, it could be a podcast. It could be on the local tv station, anything.
[00:09:01.400] – Beth Nydick
The biggest one is they don’t share it, they don’t broadcast it. You know, I’ve talked to so many podcast hosts that say to me, if one more guest only shares it once in their stories, I’m gonna quit. Like, why am I even doing this?
[00:09:16.060] – Deanna Hinsz
I feel that, right?
[00:09:17.390] – Beth Nydick
Because the myth is people are like, well, if I’m on this huge show or the stage or this whatever, my life’s gonna change. My business is gonna change. And visibility does not equal success. Not instant success. No. Like, there’s no overnight sensations, right? No, that’s the biggest one is that there’s like, I’m. I’m so excited to be here with you. Right? I prom. I talked about it on my story this morning.
[00:09:41.680] – Deanna Hinsz
I saw that.
[00:09:43.140] – Beth Nydick
Right. I’ll talk about it later. Like, sharing your. What’s going on in your business, especially for my clients, they want to see what that I’m doing, what I teach, right? So it’s about sharing it. The second myth that people really come to me with is that they think that being on the Forbes or the Business Insider or the fast company, like that kind of media or even beyond good Morning America, like the national, the big media, they think that make them. That’s going to make them more money. And I’m going to tell you right now, that’s not what makes you more money. What makes you more money is being on a podcast like this one, where I know that my ideal audience is listening, and I can convert people who are listening into my audience as well, because I targeted what I’m saying to who I’m saying it to. There’s credibility, media and money making media. We do need a little bit of both. But I like the money side.
[00:10:38.980] – Deanna Hinsz
Yeah, no, who doesn’t like the money side? I mean, I’m all about the money side. Well, you know what I mean. True, true, true, true. But yeah, no, the money is all about it because that’s why. That’s not the only reason we’re doing what we’re doing, but it’s a big part of it. We want to make money. We’re not nonprofits over here. So we talked a little bit about being authentic in the media, which I agree is so important that we do that. But how do you balance being authentic with that strategy of creating revenue? Because that might feel a little bit at times by somebody. Right. It might feel like, well, I know what my goal is, what my intention is, and I want to convert you to be my customer. And it might feel. I hear this word a lot because I’m in digital marketing. So the word that I hear a lot when I tell them to create content asking for the sale is, which is what I’m asking you right now, is I feel salesy. It feels slimy and salesy. Right. So how do you balance being authentic with turning that visibility into money?
[00:11:47.920] – Beth Nydick
Well, I already breadcrumb that in our conversation to be completely transparent. Like, if you’re listening, you know, the program I have, what the program’s about, what you’ll walk away from if you’re my ideal client. I don’t. I didn’t say, you know, and that stuff is what I try to say in the first five to seven minutes of any interview I’ve been. And that’s just one hint, and I’m not trying to sell. Who’s listening? I’m like, in this. Oh, this is in the famelab. And the famelab is all this stuff. This is what we do. This is a case study from the famelab. So I’m talking about my offer without being like, hey, let’s sign up for my. No one wants to do that. The other side of that is if it’s something that, it’s a solution to a problem and you talk about it from that point of view. I don’t know if you feel as sleazy as salesy, but I honestly, I always think that that complaint is a limiting belief.
[00:12:39.690] – Deanna Hinsz
Thank you.
[00:12:40.630] – Beth Nydick
Truth.
[00:12:42.540] – Deanna Hinsz
I’m with you 100% on that. I agree. And I think, first off, if you don’t ask for the sale and you don’t have to come out, you know, right out and say, so, are you going to buy from me? Are you going to sign up? Are you going to do that? Right. Because that. Yes, exactly. It’s like, get away from me. But exactly what you did. You talked about what you offered. You touched on some of the problems that we have of not monetizing and not taking advantage, not even recognizing that it’s a possibility. And so anybody who’s feeling that knows that you have all the answers, you’ve got the solution to that problem and it is still just selling. So I love that you said that. I do agree. It’s limiting beliefs when they say that 100%.
[00:13:25.890] – Beth Nydick
It’s so interesting what we put in our way to get to the next level. And I think that goes back to the fearless mindset. Like, this is one of the things I institute into my clients is nothing means anything until you give it meaning.
[00:13:40.500] – Deanna Hinsz
True. I had to say that in my head.
[00:13:43.050] – Beth Nydick
That’s why I paused. And this is usually around getting people to institute. Part of the fame formula is a schedule we put into your week so that you are earning media, because if you’re not earning anything, can’t really help you. Right? I need you to be earning someone something. And that consistent pitching gets hard because you get a lot of no’s, you get a lot of nothings. But when you can make it mean nothing, that’s when the real magic happens. That’s when you can continually do it. And like you said, I had a live earlier today. I had a podcast. I was at iheartradio yesterday. I’m with you today. I’m with somebody else on Monday and Wednesday, like, because my launch is coming up, I want to be on as many things as I can beforehand. And if I was allowing myself to be put off by every person I asked to be on their podcast and they said no or they said nothing, I would get no.
[00:14:33.060] – Deanna Hinsz
Right? Right. I mean, collaboration is such a big part of all this. And growing your brand and being visible, which is exactly what you do. So you were in the behind the scenes part before you actually started teaching all of us how to be visible. Are there any things that. Anything that, like, we should know about the media that they don’t tell us? Like, it’s just kind of a secret that, you know, there’s a lot of secrets. There’s a lot of secrets. And the reason I asked is because I watched your Drew Barrymore clip, and I got the biggest laugh out of it when you were. When you were on that show. I thought it was so great. I thought it was a lot of fun to watch. And, you know, it’s not like you asked one time, and Drew Barrymore, or whoever does the deciding over there was like, oh, yes, come on in. Right? Like, it’s. I’m assuming it’s just not that easy.
[00:15:29.870] – Beth Nydick
No, it’s not. Actually. That was a relationship that I had been cultivating. The. The guy that asked me to come on had been a producer that I met at the Tamron hall show six or seven years ago that I connect with. You know, he’s part of my list. I also know him personally. He lives near me, but I probably connect with him once a month, once every other month. He then was on the Drew Barrymore show, and he asked me. He called me, and he’s like, hey, do you, like, you’re like a foodie, right? And I was like, jonathan, anything you’re gonna ask me to do, I’m gonna do. What is it? Like? I knew why he was. I don’t really care what I have to do. Eat bugs.
[00:16:07.510] – Deanna Hinsz
That was a big ass.
[00:16:09.750] – Beth Nydick
I have that video. Up next, special guest bath Mitiche. And now he’s at the Sherri shepherd show, and I’ve been on the Sherri shepherd show. I did an audience segment with her last year, and that’s something that we go over in the program as well, is really teaching you what journalists you want to have relationships with, and I don’t. And people in media, it’s different than people in digital. Right. We’re friendly in digital because we’re trying to help each other grow. When you’re friendly with somebody that’s a journalist in the media, your content for them, you’re helping them keep their job. Your good ideas, give them prizes. Not prizes, but give them roses by their, by their boss, because they’re coming with somebody who’s got a good idea or they have a good idea and they’re collaborating with you. It’s a different animal. And that’s the one secret that I wanted to really talk to everybody about when you said that is like, it’s different than digital. And the timing is different than digital, so if you’re asked to be on the Drew Barrymore show, it’s probably for tomorrow. It’s probably for three days from now.
[00:17:11.650] – Beth Nydick
Okay, hurry up fast. And it’s about saying yes. I. Like, I said yes to Jonathan before I knew what it was. I didn’t care what it was like.
[00:17:20.720] – Deanna Hinsz
I’m there, I’m there.
[00:17:22.620] – Beth Nydick
I’m there, right? That opportunity. Like, I was at iHeartRadio yesterday, and the guy who was catering lunch ended up being a guest on a podcast because the guest had bowed out at the last moment, and he was. I said, you said yes. He’s like, what else am I gonna do, say no? It’s an opportunity. I have to step into it. And that’s what I mean. With the media, you never know what’s gonna happen. But saying yes and being prepared is the biggest secret.
[00:17:51.040] – Deanna Hinsz
Yeah, I remember. I have been terrified. Not anymore, but I was terrified to speak in public. And, I mean, I could talk to my friends. I was super social growing up, but when I had to give the presentation in the front of the class, I would be sick to my stomach. So early in my journey, I had left the corporate world to start an at home business, and I got a lot of attention, and I had our local tv station call and say, can you be on the show? We wanna talk to you. I was scared to death. Of course I said yes because saying no wasn’t an option, but I was so nervous, my hands were sweaty. I am like, you know, all the cameras and the lights around you. I’m glad I did it. But I guess my point is, like, do it scared, because it is scary.
[00:18:41.990] – Beth Nydick
This is what’s coming up for me. So I was on Doctor Oz, and I started getting recognized in my hometown, like, people that come run home. Are you Beth Nidek? I saw you. That’s so amazing. Da da da. I literally gained 20 pounds in the next two months because I was like, wait a minute. Way. Like, too much, too fast, too this, too that. Thank God. Through therapy, I figured out what it was. But, yeah, but I was like, it was. And I was already in tv for 15 years. It wasn’t like I didn’t. It was behind the scenes. As soon as they put me in front of the camera and before I got my feet underneath me, it blew up. And I was like, wait a minute. And I used that story to really show that I, you know, I don’t have all the answers, but I know how to turn that into what you see me do. Now, like, eat bugs with Drew Barrymore.
[00:19:32.170] – Deanna Hinsz
Which. It was great. I love that. I wish I ate bugs with Drew Barrymore. I would have done that.
[00:19:37.160] – Beth Nydick
The only thing, I wish they had given me a mug to drink the water out of, and I put it down, and they took the tray. Like, I don’t have the mug. Like, I wish I had the mug.
[00:19:46.330] – Deanna Hinsz
Oh, well, next time, right. Next time, you’ll know. So I don’t want to give all the secrets of your program away, but are you able to give, like, a little sneak peek into, like, what the blueprint is for, you know, getting these media appearances? Just a tiny peak? Yeah.
[00:20:07.830] – Beth Nydick
Well, actually, in my link and bio, in my instagram is my download. It’s called how to make ten k from your next podcast interview. And a lot of the strategies that we’ve been talking in there. But it’s a checklist for what you’re doing before, during, and after a podcast interview so that you, too, can make ten K from the next podcast or the next interview that you have. Having that promotional strategy really dialed in and used actually, you know, actually.
[00:20:34.970] – Deanna Hinsz
Right.
[00:20:37.070] – Beth Nydick
Execute it.
[00:20:38.050] – Deanna Hinsz
Well, the checklist makes it easy to execute. Right? So there’s no excuse. You’ve taken our excuses away by creating a checklist.
[00:20:47.350] – Beth Nydick
You know, one thing that I learned this week, I actually did a call on Monday. There. There’s. You can do everything in that checklist, or you can do one thing off of each checklist. It doesn’t matter as long as you do something.
[00:20:59.460] – Deanna Hinsz
Okay, that’s easy enough. You can’t have any excuses now. I mean, I thought you took them all away before, but now, like, they’re all lived out. So if you had to leave our listeners with just one powerful takeaway about using mediaev to grow our brands, what would that be?

Why not you? Oh, I asked myself, whenever I’m trying to do something big, Beth, why not you? And there’s no answer other than why not me, right?

Because it’s such a powerful question. Because a lot of times we see other people doing it, seeing people eat bugs on Drew Barrymore and appearing on Doctor Oz and doing all this stuff, right? And we’re like, well, that’s because, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Right? Fill in the blank, whatever that is. That’s why she got to do it. She had that relationship. But you’re right. Why not me? Why, you know, why can’t we? I love that. That’s a good one. I need a post it note, like, right on my computer screen. So I see it every single day. Why not me?

I have it on my wall at my desk 100%. Oh, I do. You know what? I’ll take a photo of it next time. I should put that on my social media. It’s framed. I have this little, like, digital. My friend made it for me. Cause I say it in my program sometimes at the end of a class, if we’re like. I’m like, okay, everybody, why not me? Because it’s one of those mantras that has gotten me to do almost everything I’ve gotten to do.

I love it. I love that. And now I know we’ve talked about this course that you have coming up, the six month course. But can you tell us about it just one more time? And if somebody’s listening, going, I need Beth. I need Beth’s help. I need her direction. Like, what is this about? Tell me more. And how can I sign up for this?

All the information is in my link and bio in my instagram. You know, honestly, if you go to any of my social media, it’s right there. Are you going to go to bethnidek.com? that’s n y. Like New York Dick. And that’s how it said, too. But the program, if you are ready to actually make money from your media and get your business to a place that you really wanted to be, booking out your clients and filling out your offers, the fame lapse for you.
