What Does a Done-for-You Marketing Agency Actually Do?
Let’s face it. Knowing what you should be doing and having time to do it are two different things.
You sit down to write an email to your customers, and a client calls. You mean to update your website, but there’s a proposal that needs to go out first. Before you know it, another week has passed and your marketing is still on the list.
Sound familiar?
Let’s face it. Knowing what you should be doing and having time to do it are two different things.
A done-for-you marketing agency handles the marketing work you hire it to do, such as building your website, managing email campaigns, or improving your search visibility. You provide information about your business and approve the direction. Your marketing partner handles the agreed work.
That doesn’t mean you have to hand over everything. Sometimes getting one thing off your plate is exactly what you need.
What is done-for-you marketing?
Done-for-you marketing is a service where a professional plans, creates, or manages specific marketing work for your business. What they handle depends on your agreement. It can be a single project or ongoing support.
For example, you might want someone to write, build, and send your customer newsletter. Or your website needs an update that you know you’re never going to get around to yourself.
You can get help with those things and still handle the parts you enjoy. If you like showing up on social media, keep doing that. There’s no rule that says hiring help means handing over your entire business.
What services does a done-for-you marketing agency offer?
Services vary, but they can include website design, email marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), social media content, and paid advertising. Some providers specialize in a few areas; others offer broader support.
At CarbonSilk, I can help you explore support for your website, email marketing, and SEO. We start with what you need and agree on what I’ll handle before the work begins.
Here’s what that support can look like:
Website design or updates
Help can include creating pages, updating information, and making it easier for people to contact you. Ask whether copy, images, hosting, and ongoing maintenance are included.
Email marketing
Help can include planning, writing, building, and sending your emails. Get clear on who provides business updates, who approves each email, and how often they go out.
Search engine optimization (SEO)
Help can include reviewing and improving your website’s content and technical setup so search engines can better understand it. Ask what will be worked on, what will be measured, and when you’ll review progress.
Before hiring anyone, ask: “What are you handling, and what do you still need from me?”
It sounds simple. It can also save a lot of back-and-forth later.
How do you know when it’s time to outsource your marketing?
Outsourcing may make sense when important marketing work repeatedly goes unfinished, you need skills you don’t have, or doing it yourself takes time away from serving your customers.
Here’s what I would do. Write down three marketing tasks you keep putting off. Next to each one, ask:
- Do I know how to do this?
- Do I realistically have time to do it?
- Do I want to keep being the person responsible for it?
Be honest with that last one. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you want it on your list forever.
Then choose the task that would make the biggest difference if it were finally handled. Start there.
How much does done-for-you marketing cost?
The cost depends on the service, the amount of work, and whether you’re hiring for a project or ongoing help. A website project and a monthly email service need different quotes, so compare what’s included before comparing prices.
Ask whether the quote covers writing, design, setup, revisions, and reporting. Check for separate costs such as software, hosting, or advertising spend.
Most of all, make sure you’re paying for the help you actually need. If you want someone to handle your newsletter from start to finish, a package that gives you ideas but leaves you writing and sending it may not solve your problem.
You should be able to look at a proposal and understand what you’re getting, what it costs, and what happens next.
How involved will you need to be?
You’ll still need to share business updates, provide access and materials, and approve work when required. How much time that takes depends on the service and the process you agree on.
Your marketing partner won’t automatically know that you’ve added a service, changed your hours, or have something special coming up. You’ll need a simple way to share those details.
Agree on when information is due, how approvals happen, and who to contact with questions. The goal is to get work off your plate while keeping your marketing connected to what’s actually happening in your business.
How do you know if done-for-you marketing is working?
Look for progress toward the goal you hired someone to help with. That might include relevant email replies, website inquiries, booked calls, or improved search visibility. The right measures depend on the service.
A report should help you understand what’s happening. Ask your provider what changed, what they’re learning, and what they recommend doing next.
Some improvements take time, and no provider can promise that every visitor will become a customer. But you should know what work is happening and why it matters.
Questions to ask before hiring a marketing agency
Before you sign, get clear answers to these questions:
- What exactly is included, and what costs extra?
- Who will do the work and communicate with me?
- What will you need from me, and when?
- How will we review progress or change the plan?
- What happens to my website, accounts, and content if we stop working together?
You don’t need to know every marketing term to ask good questions. You do need to feel comfortable with the answers.
Frequently asked questions about done-for-you marketing
Can I outsource just one part of my marketing?
Yes. Depending on the provider, you can hire help for one service, such as email marketing or a website project. You don’t have to buy a full-service package to get useful support.
What’s the difference between done-for-you and done-with-you marketing?
With done-for-you marketing, the provider handles the agreed work. With done-with-you support, you receive guidance and participate more directly in getting it done. Ask who is responsible for each task, because providers may use these labels differently.
Do I need an agency, or can I hire a freelancer?
Either can be a good fit. Look at the person’s or team’s experience, availability, communication, and ability to handle the work you need. An agency label alone doesn’t tell you how much support you’ll receive.
Do I need a complete marketing plan before reaching out?
No. Bring what you know: what you offer, who you want to reach, what you’ve tried, and where you’re getting stuck. That gives you a starting point for discussing the right help.
What could you use a hand with?
You don’t need to have it all figured out before we talk.
If there’s something you’ve been wanting to do with your website, emails, or search visibility, reach out to CarbonSilk. Tell me what’s been sitting on your list, and we can talk through whether my done-for-you services would be a good fit.
